POCSO Information - Additional Risks related to Participation
Confidentiality and Safety – What You Should Know
This is a confidential and anonymous space designed to help you stay in control and achieve better well being. People come here because they want support in managing thoughts or behaviors around the use of sexual material involving children. You can talk openly here without sharing your identity.
At the same time, we want to be transparent about our responsibilities. Under Indian law, including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), there are legal obligations to take action if there is a concern about harm to a child. This action involves informing the appropriate authorities regarding the knowledge of an identifiable person causing sexual harm towards a child including child sexual abuse material (CSAM) use. The required information includes name of victim, name of perpetrator, locations, type of behaviour, etc.
Because this service is anonymous, we do not have access to identifying information such as your name, address, face, voice, IP address or exact location. This means that we cannot make reports that identify a specific person. However, we may still need to document and formally escalate concerns within our system. We may also make a general report without identifying details, as part of our legal responsibilities.
What this means for you:
Your identity is not known to us.
Your specific behaviour with your name cannot be reported or identified
The focus of this space is to support you in reducing or stopping harmful behaviors.
Our goal is to help you stay in control and achieve a better quality of life—not to punish you.
We encourage you to use this space openly. Seeking help is an important step toward change, and we are here to support you in that process.
Our study is not aimed at people who have committed sexual abuse of children in the past or who
currently pose a risk for this behavior. If you report this kind of behavior to us during the chat
intervention, we will have to end the intervention and make an anonymized official report. In this
case, the following alternative support options are available to you:
You have the option to continue the online self-help modules on Troubled Desire on your own.
Additionally, we can refer you to an international video therapy program on a self-pay basis for
people with sexual responsiveness to children.
